Here around Bunn there is something for everyone. Hike, paddle and cycle in Bauer’s magical nature, work out in our outdoor gym or relax in our wonderful lake cabin with sauna. If you want to explore the region we have collected our favorites below.

 

Rent a canoe

Paddle on beautiful Bunn or on the magical canals that connect lakes Bunn, Ören and Kvarnsjöarn. We have 13 canoes that you book via the form below or at the reception. You have access to the canoe all day and life jackets, four paddles/canoe and map are included. We recommend 2 people/canoe but it is possible to have more and we have a few loose seats to lend (cannot be pre-booked though).

Exhibition about John Bauer at Jönköpings County Museum

The exhibition follows John through short extracts from his letters, several original works and many drawings. Here and there there are traces and echoes of his wife Ester. In the exhibition there is room for play and imagination and all children can dress up.

Magical boat tour with Trolska båtturer

Experience the magical nature of Bunn, Ören and the canals. The boat tours runs daily from July 1 until Mid-August. The tour takes about 2 h 45 min and you get on in Bunnström (about 15 min by car from Bauergården). Coffee and cake are included and served onboard!

Åsens By – the village where time stopped

In the Culture Reserve Åsens By you can travel back to the year 1900 to see what life in the Småland countryside was like then. Here, you can wander around on your own, stay overnight or take part in various activities and experience horse-powered farming of the past. As in times gone by, the food on the table is determined by the season and the availability of local produce, and during the summer months, native Swedish breeds graze in the old cultural landscape.

Hire a rowing boat and go fishing

Row out on the beautiful Lake Bunn and enjoy the tranquillity, or go fishing from the boat. The lake has a rich fish fauna including perch, pike and pike-perch. Fishing permits can be purchased at www.ifiske.se (in Swedish)

Bake Gränna crispbread

Partake in baking Grännaknäcke crispbread and bake some of your own in the heart of the idyllic Gränna. The bakery accepts groups of max 10 persons at a time and the activity takes approx. one hour.

Guided hike in John Bauer’s footsteps

Let our guide take you on a journey through John Bauer’s life and the secrets of the forest as you wander in the magical nature that was the inspiration for so many of the artist’s works. The hike takes about 1.5-2 hours and ends with coffee and cake.

The Andrée Expedition – Polar Centre at Grenna Museum

Don’t miss out on visiting Grenna Museum where you can experience André’s polar expedition, which will take the breath away from most. The museum also tells the history of Gränna and rock candy – well worth a visit.

Hike along John Bauer trail

John Bauerleden trail is a total of 57.7 km and runs from Huskvarna to Gränna. It is a beautiful hike through the forest that gave the artist his inspiration. We are located almost exactly halfway along the trail, perfect if you want to bed down for the night and regain your strength before tackling the final stage the following day.

Björkenäs Moped and Motorcycle Museum

Björkenäs Moped and Motorcycle Museum is a paradise for nostalgic motorcycle fans. It has a large collection of mopeds and motorcycles.

Röttle by and Rasmus Water Mill

Röttle is a small beautiful village situated south of Gränna. Here you will find two ancient mills, a waterfall and a small marina.

Visit the beautiful Äppledalen

Äppledalen, Småland’s Tuscany, just north of Huskvarna, has wonderful views of Lake Vättern, beautiful plantations and breathtaking surroundings. There are two apple orchards, Rudenstam and Vistakulle Fruktodling with the coffee roasting house Gårdsrosteriet, the garden store Tengblads and Min Stund salon and barbershop. In the village, opposite Hunnerydsbadet, there is an interior design shop and Grafitgrå café.

‘Remmalag’ horse-drawn cart on Visingsö island

Enjoy the island of Visingsö by horse and cart with the popular ‘Remmalag’. Several tours run every day. Quiet, peaceful and very eco-friendly!

Cycle in Småland’s Tuscany

Some claim that the nature here is magical, and we agree – every day, all year round! Challenge yourself along winding roads, ascending metre by metre, or head out on a gentle ride and enjoy every second. The magical routes include paths, forest roads and asphalt loops to suit everyone – beginners and competition cyclists alike!

Visingsborg Castle Ruin on Visingsö island

It’s not difficult to imagine all the activity that must have taken place in and around Visingsborg Castle in its glory days. In the surrounding area there were many farms and manors that were the property of Count Per Brahe the Younger and many people who were subordinate to him. Experience Visingsö island and the castle ruins, an activity for the whole family.

Make traditional Swedish candy cane

Partake in making rock candy and make your own red and white cane (Polkagris) at one of Gränna’s traditional rock candy makers. A fun activity that’s suitable for most and takes approx. one hour.

Brahehus Castle Ruin

Many have probably noticed the square ruin they passed on the E4, a few kilometres north of Gränna where Brahehus is located, high up on the edge of Grännaberget cliff.

To get to Brahehus, you can stop at the Brahehus rest area and walk to the ruin. Once there, you have a fantastic view of Gränna and Visingsö island and you can look out over Västergötland. Brahehus is accessible all year round, day and night.
